TOMS vs BOBS

This is a blog post by Digital Mom Blog--- I think that she says it just perfectly so I am copying this onto my blog to share it to others so that more can be informed & I like her, am completely loyal to Toms..... The actual blog is in the link below.

http://www.digitalmomblog.com/2010/09/13/toms-shoes-copied-by-skechers/

Saturday we were in Journey’s for Kids attempting to find my growing boy’s feet some new shoes. We were on a mission to find some Toms for kids. As much as I LOVE buying online, somethings I want NOW.  So we are in Journey’s for Kids and I ask the sales dude if they had Toms, he said – NO,  BUT he had something just as good – Skechers.

SKECHERS?

No thanks.

Do you know the mission behind Toms?

“Yeah, same thing with these Sketchers. They are doing what Toms does but they are Sketchers.”

WHAT? ARE YOU KIDDING? Those words fell out of my mouth.

Sketchers Bobs not Toms
In typical non-thinking Molly style, I snapped a twitpic – and tweeted out:

Skechers is copying TOMs with a line called BOBs. I asked the sales dude if this was a joke. http://twitpic.com/2nhnln

And went on my merry way.  Tonight I logged on to Hootsuite to see my tweet retweeted 5 more times, by people I don’t know. Whoops. It’s funny how what you say can get tweeted and retweeted and posted on walls and yadda yadda. I mean I should know that by now RIGHT?
So I opened up the twitpic to see how many people had viewed my silly image.
380 views. AND after looking closer at the BOBS by SKECHERS twitpic I snapped – I see Soles 4 Souls logo on the tag and then I started to feel a little rotten.  I hadn’t noticed that little diddy before.  Why rotten? Because though I’ve never been a fan of Skechers, I’ve always been a fan of Soles4souls.

Soles 4 Souls

Soles 4 Souls in an amazing organization. Copied directly from their website:
Soles4Souls has given away over 10 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes (currently donating one pair every 7 seconds.) The shoes have been distributed to people in over 125 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States.
In other words. These are good people doing good work…
SO should I POUT about Soles4Souls receiving a large donation from Skechers? (Skechers you better be sharing a large sum of that profit!) OR Should I be upset with a BIG brand like Skechers finding a way to cause market?
Cause marketing or cause-related marketing refers to a type of marketing involving the cooperative efforts of a “for profit” business and a non-profit organization for mutual benefit. The term is sometimes used more broadly and generally to refer to any type of marketing effort for social and other charitable causes, including in-house marketing efforts by non-profit organizations. Cause marketing differs from corporate giving (philanthropy) as the latter generally involves a specific donation that is tax deductible, while cause marketing is a marketing relationship generally not based on a donation. (thanks wikipedia)

No. Cause marketing is a good thing.

BUT SKECHERS CAN YOU PLEASE BE MORE ORIGINAL?

I mean seriously TOMS – BOBS similar but different. And LOOK at the design – originality people… come on.. it’s one thing to knock off with a similar name with a simliar mission – but couldn’t you create an original shoe?!?!?

toms vs bobs
My knee jerk reaction to the sales dude was most likely 2 reasons.
1. BOBS is a total play off of TOMS
and
2. A few weeks ago I heard Blake Mycoskie, founder of  Toms Shoes – speak a few weeks ago at the Willow Creek Leadership Summit.  His company is built from the heart. He fell into the business after seeing a shoe drive first hand.  Toms Shoes pays for employees to go on shoe drops after they have been with the company for 2 years.  As he spoke, you could hear the passion and understand the mission behind the business. It was genuine and he’s cute.  Did I say that? Anywhoo…

Trying to Be Fair

SO to be FAIR, I am trying to do some research to find out more about this whole thing.  I have checked out Skecher’s site for BOBS by Skechers and have found nothing.  I have looked on Soles for Souls site – and again nothing on this Bobs shoe partnership.
I finally found something on Journey’s For Kids site – so wondering if this is just a shoe promotion thru Journey’s for Kids…..
Canvas slipper from Skechers featuring allover sparkles and a comfy sole.
Buy a pair of BOBS and Skechers will donate a pair of shoes to a child in need through Soles4Soles!
So here I am at the end of the post.
Happy that kids will have shoes, everyone deserves SHOES.
But mad at the MAN (Skechers) who has to copy in order to compete.

Competition is good.  Copying is LAME PEOPLE!

As for me and my family, our feet are loyal to Toms.

Always a time for firsts

So, tuesday night at work I experienced my ACTUAL first code. I have been there to help out with other codes, but all the other codes had never been on my actual patient. Tuesday night it was my patient. My patient, the person I'm supposed to help get better, let alone keep alive. Of course like they all say, everything happen so fast-- and I will skip the details & just tell you there is a happy ending. My patient did get a pulse back was sent to the ICU unit & that I know of is still alive. I think the hardest part, the part that kept me up when I was trying to sleep is that I kept wondering if I could have done something sooner, something different that would have lead to another result. One where my patient didnt have to go through the code in order to live. I understand this is part of my job criteria, and it was a complete adrenaline rush for me because of the intensity of the situation-- But it could have had a completely different ending & one day that will happen. The patient wont make it through even when we do everything we can. All I can say is Im just glad that this time it wasnt a bad ending.

On to a completely different topic, I just say a General Insurance commercial (you know the one, with the cartoon army general), well it got me thinking all this commercials is getting at- is if you have bad credit dont worry the general can take care of you. But isnt the point of having bad credit is that you have repercussions for your actions (aka bad credit) and have to pay more/be penalized. It made me realize that America has become this little push over. We are doing everything to make things easier for people's lives-- when really if they did the right thing and we good people they wouldnt need short cuts & ways to get out of the bad predicament. Egh, this might not really make sense-- or I could not be explaining myself appropriately but it all makes sense in my head. America saw a chance to make $$ on those that need to get out of a bad predicament so they make this company that can help those people in their bad predicament as long as they pay more $$$, but yet it just tells people its okay to do bad things because as long as you have enough $$ you wont have to pay the consequences.

This just makes me think of the Casey Anthony case-- and that just makes my blood boil. So on to a happier note; I'm going to make banana bread, get ready for dinner with my grandparents, and take my sweet little puppy for a walk! Oh, how I love her!!!! :)

I need an outlet, I need to vent.... because there are toooo many social medias in which tooo many people will read what I am about to rant about & then ask question, get upset, worried, etc.... and really thats not what I want or need right now. I just want to get out my frustrations.

Egh, just typing on here already has helped & I havent even told you what Im upset about! Yay!

I think that maybe I value my family more than others do... and I find that extremely sad, actually it really upsets me. I am even talking about the own members of my family, for it has been quite a while since I have seen some of them. And of course everyone is busy and has things to do... yada yada, but you make time for what you want to do.... so shouldnt you be making time for your family?

Random: I absolutely LOVE my dog Kaia! She can tell that things are good right now in the house & she is upset..... trying to make things better! TOOO CUTE & only she could soften me right now.

So, frustrated about my soon to be vacations..... I mean in all reality I should thrilled, ecstatic about them, but no I need to find a place for Kaia to stay -- and really thats not the hard part since we have two viable options. The hard part is picking the place. Pros & Cons to each place and of course what makes it harder is that Sean & I arent agreeing right now. So, what to do.... I'm not sure.

I hate fighting with Sean. HATE IT!! So much, that I feel like I give in at times just to make things better. Which I KNOW isnt the best way to go about things. I try hard to listen to the different words of advice for the best way to fight in a relationship & I'm not perfect --- BUT I do feel that I try hard to fight fair. I do NOT feel that Sean does this at times, example-- he was mad so what does he do?? Say the sarcastic mocking comment that only makes things worse & frustrates me more. How am I supposed to respond to that, when it makes me feel like I am going to boil over with anger. If I say anything, Im sure Im going to regret it later. So I keep my mouth shut & walk out of the room to decrease my anger..... at this point thats what I need to keep this from being something really horrible. Not to mention that the "comment" is EXACTLY like something my mom would say. Yet Im sure that if Sean heard this, it would only make matters worse.

So, what to do now..... because I cant stand just leaving arguments & not resolving them.

Thanks for the figurative "shoulder" to lean on right now :)

My Shows

So, I dont really watch that much tv. Actually, I really could live with out TV. GASP!!! Shocking for most I know! But, I keep up with two shows & they arent on during the same time of the year.... so really there is only 1 show I need to keep up with during the year. Which makes it incredibly easy & if you havent noticed recently that most shows can be found online..... so my question is why pay for cable and all those unwanted channels that you are never going to watch? Well, surprise surprise... my apartment actually has cable (because my boyfriend cant live with out his sports!) and having cable again after 2 years of living with out, makes me realize I wasn't missing anything AT ALL!! Egh, I hate the thought of paying for cable!

The exciting part of this post is that "my show" is back on for another season!!!

TRUE BLOOD
Pretty excited if you cant tell. If you dont watch the show, you should start. There are sexy men, women, all sorts of love connections, mysterious relationships, violence, and suspense. It ROCKS!!

Also, another rant..... i do not like (correction, i very much DISLIKE) how expensive birth control is. Gosh, darn every time the total comes up it just makes me want to choke! I would think that insurance companies would want to cover birth control because it would prevent pregnancies, which would be MUCH MORE COSTLY! But no, lets all just have babies & more babies then be on welfare! EGH!

sorry, that's my little rant. hope that everyone is having a great day. Stay dry & out of all the rain!

(and if you were wondering what my other show is-- its Vampire Diaries!)
